Actin in chemotaxis

Cells expressing GFP-actin are observed as they were chemotaxing towards a micropipette filled with cAMP. The tip of the pipette is moved into different positions as indicated. Images were captured every 18 seconds. From K. Barisic, M. Ecke, C. Heizer, M. Maniak, M. Westphal, R. Albrecht, G. Gerisch, Max-Planck-Institut fur Biochemie, Martinsried, Germany.

Coronin in chemotaxis

Cells expressing GFP-coronin are observed as they were chemotaxing towards a micropipette filled with cAMP. The tip of the pipette is moved into different positions as indicated. Images were captured every 10 seconds. From K. Barisic, M. Ecke, C. Heizer, M. Maniak, M. Westphal, R. Albrecht, G. Gerisch, Max-Planck-Institut fur Biochemie, Martinsried, Germany.

Tubulin in random movement

Cells expressing GFP-tubulin are observed during non-oriented cell migration. Images were captured every 20 seconds. From E.L. de Hostos,  UCSF, and J. Sabry, Cytokinetics, Inc., South San Francisco.

Random Motility

D. discoideum cells expressing GFP-tagged to a highly conserved actin binding domain (ABD) crawling on a glass surface. DIC and fluorescence images were collected simultaneously. Images were captured every 10 seconds.
From K.M. Pang, E. Lee, and K.A. Knecht,  University of Connecticut.

Side view of moving cell

Side view of amoebae expressing GFP-ABD plated on a glass surface. DIC and fluorescence images were collected simultaneously every 10 seconds by confocal microscopy. From E. Shelden and D.A. Knecht, University of Connecticut.
